Camp NaNoWriMo Woes - Week One

It's August, it's summer, it's sort-of-warm-but-still-rainy. It's Camp NaNoWriMo time again!

Before this summer I had never done Camp NaNoWriMo. I had attempted the November NaNo for two years, winning on the latest one. But summer has always been different. Summer is about relaxing and resting and doing all those things that you can't do when you're still obliged to receive some sort of education.

Namely sleeping. And eating. Don't forget eating.

After doing these things for a few weeks something begins to happen. I get even lazier and my brain stops wanting to cope with things more difficult more difficult than playing on the Xbox. Like thinking, for example.

So I've shunned Camp NaNo in previous years. But since I won NaNoWriMo last year (just) I've been craving the excitement and minor despair that comes from needing to write 20,000 words in four days in order to finish on time. So when I remembered about Camp I thought why not?

There were many reasons why not, these being:
- By the time I remembered I had a mere four days to plan the novel.
- I wasn't sure if I could write 50,000 words this time.
- I had no idea what to write about.

So I returned to an old idea, one that I had first attempted NaNo with but only managed to write around 6,000 words of, and so far it's going great. The story is progressing nicely and everything is going to plan. My word count is steadily increasing and I'm on target to finish on 31st August.

So what's the problem?

The problem is this: I'm honestly not sure if I can write 50,000 words about this. I really don't want it going the way of my other novel, which I just filled with pointless scenes which had no relevance to the story in order to reach that 50,000. I want something that's coherent and will be more enjoyable to edit than the crap I spewed in 2011.

Gah. I'm sure I'll think of a way eventually. Until then I'll be drinking craploads of coffee and listening to The NaNoWriMo Song on repeat.

Introductions

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Kerry, and you've arrived on my shiny new blog. Not the greatest opening line ever, but it will suffice.

I write reviews (among other things) over at Breakfast at Bookland for the books which I've read, but my love for words goes beyond that. Since I wrote my first story at the age of six I've also loved writing, though the day I write a piece I'm fully satisfied with doesn't look like it'll be any time soon.

So when I'm not taking part in this year's Camp NaNoWriMo or playing my videogames ( or whatever the hell it is that I feel like wasting my life on), I'll be posting on here about various book-related things.
